The Canadian retail and hospitality space has changed so much over the past few years with more businesses going digital, streamlining operations, and leaning heavily into data-driven tools. One piece of the puzzle I think we all need to get right is the Point-of-Sale (POS) system.
I'm currently exploring an upgrade for my retail stores in British Columbia and wanted to tap into the community for real-world feedback. After doing some digging, here’s my current shortlist of what seem to be the top POS systems Canadabased businesses are relying on in 2025:
🔹 Lightspeed POS Great for retail, especially if you’ve got deep inventory needs and multiple locations. 🔹 Square for Retail/Restaurants Very intuitive and cost-effective. Seems perfect for small businesses or startups. 🔹 Shopify POS Amazing online-to-offline sync, but I’m unsure how reliable it is when working offline. 🔹 Moneris A local player with good support, but the interface feels slightly outdated to me. 🔹 Clover POS Stylish hardware and flexible pricing. But how’s the backend reporting?
Now I’d love to hear from you:
💬 What POS system are you using in Canada and how’s it working out? ✅ Which features matter the most in your daily operations? (e.g., bilingual menus, Interac compatibility, CRA-ready reporting, loyalty tools) 🚫 Have you tried any system that didn’t live up to expectations?
Whether you run a boutique, a salon, a restaurant, or a chain of retail shops your input could really help fellow entrepreneurs make better choices this year.
