Has anyone ever dealt with a rope burn from a dog leash? It’s one of those things you don’t think about until it happens, and then…ouch! 😖 I recently had a leash slip through my hands when my dog bolted after a squirrel, leaving me with a painful rope burn. I wasn’t sure how to treat it, so I wanted to share what I learned and get your advice too!
Here’s what worked for me:
Cool it down immediately: Run cool water over the burn for about 10–15 minutes. This helped ease the pain and reduce the redness.
Clean the area: Gently wash the burn with mild soap and water, especially if the skin is broken, to prevent infection.
Apply something soothing: Aloe vera gel worked wonders for me—it cooled the area and sped up healing. You can also use antiseptic ointments like Neosporin for added protection.
Cover it up: A non-stick bandage keeps the burn protected, especially if you’re heading out for another walk.
If the burn is severe or starts showing signs of infection, like swelling or pus, definitely see a doctor. Prevention is key too—I’ve started wearing gloves on walks and using a padded leash to avoid this happening again.
