Gallagher maintained his innocence and accused dissatisfied members of his platoon of stepping forward with allegations of misconduct to frame him.
"The truth of the whole story is that the ISIS fighters were killed by us and no one at the time was in trouble," Gallagher said on Apple TV + podcast "The Line", hosted by Dan Taberski.
"We killed that man, our intention was to kill him, everybody on the boat," Gallagher said on the Apple podcast. "It had to do a medical situation with him until he died."
"He's dying regardless," Gallagher was quoted as saying. "Everyone is the same, let's get him medical treatment until he's gone."
"Everyone knows what happened," Gallagher said. "That's the only thing that is true for this whole process, and then the rest is like a lot of perverted lies, like holding the whole situation on me."
