Can limestone paving slabs be used around a swimming pool?

Yes, limestone paving slabs can definitely be used around a swimming pool, but from my experience it’s worth considering a few things before going ahead. Limestone paving slabs are naturally elegant and give a very premium look to the poolside area. They stay relatively cool underfoot compared to some darker stones, which is a big plus in the summer.

That being said, limestone is a porous material, so sealing it properly is really important. If you don’t seal it, the slabs can absorb water and pool chemicals, which might cause stains or slight fading over time. I’ve seen some people go with a lighter shade of limestone paving slabs because they make the area look brighter and also don’t heat up too much.

Another thing I’d suggest is checking the finish — a textured or tumbled surface is safer around a pool, since it provides more grip when the slabs are wet. Personally, I think limestone paving slabs are a great choice if you want a natural, timeless look, as long as you take care with sealing and maintenance.
