Biohazard bags are specifically designed for the safe disposal of biomedical waste that poses a risk to human health or the environment. In Gujarat, as per the Bio-Medical Waste Management Rules, 2016, the following types of medical waste should be disposed of in biohazard bags:
Infectious Waste:
Waste that is contaminated with blood, body fluids, or other infectious materials. This includes:
Blood-soaked bandages and gauze
Contaminated gloves and masks
Syringes and needles (sharps should ideally be placed in puncture-proof containers before disposal)
Pathological Waste:
Human tissues, organs, and body parts that are removed during surgeries or autopsies.
Microbiological Waste:
Cultures, stocks, or specimens of microorganisms, including waste from laboratories and research facilities.
Contaminated Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):
Used PPE, such as gloves, gowns, and face shields that may be contaminated with pathogens.
Waste from Dialysis:
Items used during dialysis treatment, including blood tubing, dialyzers, and other materials that may be infectious.
By adhering to these disposal guidelines, healthcare facilities can help mitigate health risks and contribute to a safer environment.
