Ocean freight trusts heavily on the services of third parties called freight forwarders. Moreover, freight forwarders regularly mean a third-party company that picks your goods. They properly arrange them to be loaded and aboard for shipping and finally correctly transported to the final destination. Because it is usually necessary to have reliable eyes and hands to collect your goods from the seller, assemble them to ship, and place your things aboard the ship.

The shipping contract is also an essential part of the process you must know about. There are international shipping terms that direct ocean freight contracts and these are called “Incoterms,” short for global commercial terms. It describes how far the seller can hold the goods along the process, and the buyer will take over the shipment liability.

The most popular incoterms are:

DDP (Delivered Duty Paid): The seller takes the maximum obligations and buyers take minimum responsibilities with China DDP Shipping Services. The terms dictate that the seller is responsible for the costs of shipping, protecting the goods, and inland transportation.

FOB (Free on Board): Under the FOB contract, buyers and sellers share the duty of the delivery process. The supplier takes obligations to ensure the goods are packaged, labeled suitably, and loaded correctly ready for shipping. When they load your goods have onboard, the transfer of the obligation to the buyer.

EXW (Ex Works): An EXW agreement places the majority of responsibility on the purchaser. The buyer picks your goods at the manufacturer’s and is responsible for the transit to their final destination.
